Learning activities for August 6 and 7, adults and teens
Voice and sounds in nature and from deep with-in, magical vocal song workshop with musician Rafe Pearlman. Storytelling, vocal sound teaching, and interactive song.
Nature inspired poetry guest readings and dialogue with Abigail Prout and Quinn Bailey. Learn about tapping sources of inspiration in nature, listening, and giving form through dialogue between two poets whose evocative words touch with in and with out, opening a door to our deeper yearnings and ancestral memories.
Join Josephine and Burke for a fun and interactive exploration of the Spirit of Music. We will employ body percussion and our voices to explore rhythm, melody and harmony as a group. We welcome all ranges of musical experience. We will co-create something purely magical and of the moment while offering you practical musical tools to take into your life. Option to develop a performance piece for Monday evening Wonder Review.
Adult immersion in nature through dance, breath and movement with Hayley Shannon. Option to develop a performance piece for Monday evening Wonder Review.
Nature can be a writer's most stalwart ally. Walking and writing are a perfect combination to help integrate and express. In this workshop, we will be Walking Deep by calling our attention to the power that a familiar outer landscape has as a companion, mirror, compass, and divination tool for our inner landscape. Holding a personal question or topic in mind, we will do a walking meditation, asking the Earth to help us form thoughts and give words to our tender topics.
Learn to make a didg with Joy Hughes and enjoy an introduction to playing this evocative instrument. Take home your didgeridoo. Option to co-create a sound bath as a shared activity for the Review on Monday night. Additional materials fee of $15.
All poetry begins with observation. In this class we will dip into the natural worlds never ending pool of inspiration through a series of playful and connective sensory awareness activities designed to help us hone our powers of observation. Once awakened we will turn our senses to the beautiful island landscape around us before turning to the page, where we will focus on how precise detail and description can convey both complex emotions and powerful images to the reader.
Keyboard, strings and drumming hands-on music and music theory with Joel Gamble. Option to participate in a performance piece for the Wonder Review. Bring your instruments, try something new.

Yoga and Mindfulness class for beginners and regulars, can extend to 8:30 for a 90 minute option. With Stephanie Brening of Picture Your Health. Open to all ages. Held outdoors. Regulars, please bring your mat. No fee for enrolled participants; preregister by email.
Learn to hand build felt animals, creatures - or flowers and mushrooms - with Carol A Anderson. Create a soft friend full of personality and take home the tools to create future felted figures. Open to ages 11and up. Includes materials kit of $15 value.
Join Reishi for a walk around Moran State Park identifying medicinal plants and mushrooms! For adults and mature teens. You will leave with a deeper confidence in how to identify and harvest your own wild medicines, and understand the role of these plants and fungi in the ecosystem. We will go over sustainable harvesting practices and discuss how to be responsible ecological stewards.
Still life painting with Alexis Bouchard with island grown flowers, fruits and found objects. Alex is a floral designer, arts educator, and paints colorful still lifes that are joyous exaltations. Arrange island grown flowers and natural findings, then draw and paint. $20 materials fee.
Learn shibori wrapping and indigo dyeing with Ali Nicol, for adults and teens. Indigo dyeing for a repurpose of something old, dye something new and leave with something blue! We will do some simple Shibori (tying) and use samples to try out the effects. Then we will use a tea towel as our final project and show off our amazing work. This is a great way to repurpose, renew, and up cycle something from home. $40 materials fee. (Email to be put on wait list for Monday 2-5pm class option)

Introduction to the time honored craft of blacksmith metalworking using anvil and forge to craft a take-home wall hook, with Emmett Pearsons. Additional materials fee $40.
We will learn the basics of herbal medicine making, including how to make medicinal teas, tinctures, oils, and salves. Learning how to make your own herbal medicines is a profoundly useful tool for supporting yourself, your family, and your community with simple remedies utilizing plants and mushrooms that grow in your garden and the San Juan islands. Option to join the Medicinal Plant & Mushroom Walk on Sunday to harvest the plants and mushrooms we will use to make the medicines in this class
Learning activities for Ages 5-16. Youth Enrollment is a full day of activities - two sessions required. Important Guidelines for Day Campers: Ages 5-11 must have a parent also enrolled and on site for a full day of activities. Parents of Day Campers can order ala carte dinners and join evening activities. Each youth enrollment includes a Wonder Camp tshirt. See details in Registration.

Fun morning music class learning about instruments and trying out a variety of stringed and percussive experiences. With Joel Gamble.
Set off on an adventure and learn the skills needed to not only survive but thrive in the wild as you explore Moran State Park with wilderness educator Quinn Bailey. Skills covered may include fire making, shelter building, how to move undetected through the forest, how birds can alert us to danger, and how to identify edible and medicinal plants. Led by Quinn Bailey.
